STUDENTS' IDEAS |

Sexuality questions, group two
Sexuality
Denmark: • Very open about sexuality, easy to talk about it amongst youngsters. The grandparents are more conservative, they don’t talk about it. You don’t talk to your parents either; they should not know everything about their children in that aspect. • Seventh grade education, a class called sexuality with a sexologist who tells about birth control pills and contraception. • You must be 15-16 years old to be allowed to have sex.
Mallorca: • Similar to Denmark, with seventh grade education. • Quite normal to talk to parents about sex and contraception. • 15 years old to have sex
Romania: • Problems with old-fashioned gypsies who marry very young. • Talk more or less with parents about sex, but talk with friends about it. • No sexual education but anatomy (about the human body) • Information for girls about their periods, contraception and diseases.
Germany: • Problems with the law, you must be 16 years old. • Different views on sexuality in the different parts of Germany. The south is more conservative, especially in Bayer (Catholics) • In the north, more open-minded and talk more about it. • Parents try to inform the children, but they think that it is embarrassing. • Sexual education in Biology, not a separate class.
Sweden: • Quite similar to Germany and Denmark • The age of our parents matters if we talk to them about sex • Common age to have a first child is around 25-27 years old • The law against having sex under 15-16 is there to protect the children. It is harder punishment at a rape or something similar, if the victim is under legal age.
Homosexuality
Denmark: • Quite normal to talk about it. • Parents and older are more old-fashioned about it. • Homosexuals are not allowed to wed in church • It is possible to adopt, but it is almost impossible.
Mallorca: • Homosexuals are not allowed to marry or adopt. There will soon be a law that says that they can soon, though. • It is not normal, but it is accepted. • In all countries, the media has helped the homosexuals to be accepted. That is why they dare to come out more now than they did before.
Romania: • There are not many “official” homosexuals. • They do not get married and they cannot adopt. • It is not common, and the informal thought might be (or is) negative. People in countryside are more conservative, so they are negative about it. • It is more or less a blank subject, it is not discussed. • They feel that it should not be encouraged in the media or at festivals because it can make people become homosexuals for the wrong reasons, that they only want attention.
Germany: • They are allowed to wed, but not in the Catholic church and they are allowed to adopt. • Nobody cares about homosexuals today, unless they are very extreme, for instance if they wear black leather trousers with an open part in the back. • It is not that open, not many homosexual couples holding hands or kissing in the streets. • More open-minded in some of the states in Germany.
Sweden: • Many famous homosexuals, they have helped to improve the acceptance for homosexuals. • It is considered strange if someone in our hometown is negative to homosexuals. • They are allowed to wed in Town Hall, not in church. They are not allowed to adopt. • Informally, the older generation has a negative view of homosexuals, they think it is strange
Abortion
Denmark: • (We think) You must be over 18 to have an abortion without your parents permission • Very common, you can do it in a hospital or private clinic. • Older generations have problems with accepting it. • Much preventive information, free condoms to help the youths. • The “day after-pills”
Mallorca: • Same as Denmark, it is allowed to do it. • People use a method of unfinished intercourse.
Germany: • The same as Denmark, except for in Bayer where they are against abortion. • We think it shouldn’t be used as contraception, only in special cases.
Romania: • Before the embryo becomes a foetus is it legal to do an abortion • They are afraid to ruin their lives => abortion
Reputation:
We all have different views of different nationalities. We feel that Danes, Germans and Swedes have the same reputation abroad. • Swedish girls have a strange reputation, like in Spain, Italy and Greece. People have the impression that they are “light-footed”, easy to get in bed. • Media affects the different reputations.
Gender equality:
Denmark: • Girls that have been with many boys = whores. Guys who have been with many girls = high status. • Naked girls in the porn magazines, not the opposite. • The rape victims have big problems to be believed. • Challenging clothes = “suit yourself”-opinion in court and amongst immigrants. • Girls feel embarrassed when they are raped, so they don´t report it.(Often).
Germany: • Same opinion as in Denmark about girls-boys. • Teachers are affected by female students. • Easier for girls to get in to discos.
Mallorca: • Similar to the other countries. • Parents are more concerned about the girls staying out.
Romania: • Teachers may gibe better grades if you show a bit of skin. • Bigger differences between boys and girls than in the other countries.
Sweden: • Same thing with boys/girls views of sex • With rape victims, the clothing is always mentioned. |
